TEXT 999
Registering your mobile phone for emergency SMS services is a straightforward process. Here’s how you can do it:
- Text ‘Register’ to 999: Send a text message with the word “Register” to the emergency number 999.
- Receive a Reply: You’ll receive a reply explaining the service. Please read through this message.
- Confirm Registration: Text back ‘Yes’ to confirm your registration.
- Confirmation Text: You’ll receive a text confirming that you are now registered for the emergency SMS service.
This service is especially valuable in situations where making a voice call might not be possible, such as in remote areas, in a run hide tell situation or for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired. By texting 999, you can call for help, and emergency services will be able to reply to you via SMS.
